For this application, smaller HOFER compressors with final pressures of up to 6,000 bar and drive power of up to 25 kW are generally used. Mainly argon and nitrogen are compressed. In pilot plants for high-pressure polyethylene production, ethylene is used as the conveying medium.
These applications require the ability to keep the compressor under pressure when stopped, to maintain rapid delivery and pressure. Hence, whenthe discharge pressure drops, e.g. due to gas consumption, the compressor immediately increases the supply).
